Earlier in the week I showed you how you could make the perfect outfit for Valentine’s Day (read all about it here), so now it’s time to master the make-up. I should probably start by saying I’m not a make-up expert at all and I still always get through about 124 make-up wipes trying to perfect it all, but I LOVE doing it so thought I’d show you all what I came up with!
In my opinion, make-up for Valentine’s Day should be relatively simple and sophisticated – after all, you’re probably not going to a 70’s disco (but if you are, you whack out that glitter girl). Whether you’re going on date night or to a party with your friends, you may as well glam up a little!
Here are some of the products I used:
FOUNDATION & CONCEALER
I used Bourjois Healthy Mix as my foundation and sorted out my under-eye circles with the Eraser Eye by Maybelline – it’s basically my favourite combination for covering up my spots and red blotches. I used my buffing brush by Real Techniques and the Oval Shadow brush from the RT Bold Metals collection (which is the most beautiful thing ever).
Even though I wear glasses I thought a glamorous but not over-the-top look on the eye was the way to go. I used my two eyeshadow palettes from Make-Up Revolution and tried to create an ombre effect with blacks and purples. To make it a bit more fun to begin with I covered my whole eyelid up to my eyebrow with a shimmery creamy white shade. I feel like silver, purple, pink and black is the perfect colour combination for Valentine’s Day because it’s not too vibrant and looks super classy!
I went for a dark nude lip and used a Mac Whirl lipstick. I thought the shade would go with one of the reddy-purple eyeshadow shades on my eyes!
I usually do bugger all to my eyebrows so because V Day requires effort I dug out my Barry M Brow Kit and my Benefit Instant Brow Pencil – brows gotta be on fleek ladies.
CONTOUR & POWDER
I’m a beginner at contouring and I use the Barry M Contour Kit which also includes a highlighter – this thing is such a life-saver for me! My favourite powder to use is the One Heck of a Blot powder from Soap & Glory – if you haven’t heard anything about this then it’s basically a translucent powder, which is fab for pale skin!
Whatever make-up you go for, always tailor it to what you’re wearing. If you’re wearing a simple black dress on the night then a colourful eye is definitely the way to go (and a red lip if you want, but they make me look like a vampire). Keep your make up super simple if you’re wearing a bright red dress, a black smokey eye would be perfect!
