There’s absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to plain, basic outfits if you feel totally comfortable in them. My work week consists of 2 dresses and 3 pairs of trousers that I pretty much alternate between, and sometimes I’ll try something new and think ‘nah, I’ll stick to what I know’. However, one way to easily add a bit of a va-va-voom to an outfit (YES I said that phrase) is to wear a statement bag, and have a bomb of colour in your look.
In terms of colour, at the moment I’m absolutely loving red.
‘THERE IS A SHADE OF RED FOR EVERY WOMAN’ – AUDREY HEPBURN
Red is one of those colours that most people can pull off, but it’s one we’re all a bit scared of. It’s a totally British colour and if you’re stuck in your monochrome ways then a red accessory can totally transform your outfit. Sure, piller-box red is a bit garish, but if you pair a red bag with a red lip and an all-black outfit, you create one of those I-didn’t-think-about-my-outfit-today looks (and it doesn’t make you any less comfortable!).
In this outfit I’m wearing my FAVE EVER new shirt from Boohoo. There seems to be a bit of a wide-sleeve thing going on in the fashion world at the mo so I couldn’t resist but treat myself to this under £20 bargain. Did I need another striped shirt in my wardrobe? No, I already have 3, but one has a stain on and another is really difficult to iron so let’s just say I needed one more.
Anyhoo, shirt life stories aside, this kinda shirt is one I’d wear for any casual occasion with a pair of black skinny jeans and some ankle boots. But what does this slightly plain outfit scream for? A SASSY RED BAG TO GO ALONGSIDE IT. This beauty is an insane JW Anderson dupe from Jessica Buurman, and as much as I love it in black, the red one genuinely spoke to me and told me I needed to up my colour game.
And when you need a bit more colour and another designer dupe, what do you do? Wear some Ego boots with the Gucci inspired snake on the side. I feel so expensive in this outfit even though it’s all-in-all a total bargain. And did you know you can now get 20% off at Ego with my code PHASESOFROBYN20?! So if you’ve had your eye on some pairs then snap ’em up now!
