It’s no secret that everyone seems to be going colour mad at the moment in the fashion world, but it can be a tricky one to buy into if you’re not really that confident.
Recently I was browsing the New Look sale (which we all know is amazing) and I saw a bright pink pair of trousers with a cute ring detail belt, for only 9 quid. Of course my instant reaction was OH MY WORD I LOVE THEM, but afterwards I was filled with doubt and lack of confidence and basically thought there is no way I can wear them. I re-searched something like ‘ring belt trouser’ on New Look, and on Google, to see if I could find some similar ones in black, but after only finding some for a much higher price tag, I thought WHY am I doing this?
I love the pink ones.
I love the price tag (£9 is a winner).
I love the style.
And so, I bought them. Whilst on some sort of spending hour I also bought this red leather jacket, but that’s a story for another day.
The next day the pink trousers came, and although I was a little upset that they were a bit stained on the back, it mostly washed out and I knew they’d be an essential summer work item for this year.
But how was I going to style them so I’d actually be comfortable in them? I sometimes feel awkward and shy going into work and everyone looking at me – especially if they’re thinking “what the flip is she wearing today” (which are , of course, thoughts we 100% create in our minds). The main plan of action for me was to match the trousers with either a white or black tee, and then a matching pair of relatively simple shoes. Some people go all out with styling, but I’m a simple girl at heart and if I’m wearing some statement trousers then I want all of the attention on them.
I think part of buying into bright clothing is all about ‘going for it’. If you’re buying sale items then you’re not necessarily wasting too much money if the items end up sitting in your wardrobe for a month or two. Then usually, you pop on the item with some other clothes that you feel comfortable in, and you think YES, I’m SO glad I picked these. Stepping out of your comfort zone is scary, and it may seem like it’ll be hard on your confidence, but I personally think it helps elevate it.
So, you’ve got the outfit, you feel fab and you’re excited about your new colourful garms. All that’s left are some accessories and complementing make-up.
In this outfit I’ve got a simple black bag from Joy and some black sunnies from ASOS. I love the black and pink contrast, and this girl managed to find the PERFECT matching pink lipstick – it’s a Lancome lippy from the L’Absolu Rouge range, in shade 368 rose.
Finally, you’ll see I’ve got the most mood-uplifting watch to complete the look. This beaut is from the Ice Lo range by Ice Watch and it’s made of silicone, with a gorge glitter (& rose gold!) dial. This watch is totally different to anything I own, but it’s nice to have a bit of a change and a spring clean to my wardrobe sometimes!
