When In Doubt, Wear Red

If you need a sophisticated, last minute outfit then the little black dress (LBD) has always been a firm favourite, but now the day-time equivalent has become the little red dress, and it’s TAKING OVER. A lot of people wouldn’t look twice at a red dress, but it generally goes with every skin tone and also gives you that oomphhhhh/sassy feeling that we all need on a bit of a down day. It is a genuine thing that humans and animals ‘fear red’, something to do with fire and danger, but seeing as ‘fire’ is now being seen as a compliment (e.g. DAMN GIRL, YOU ON FIRE) then I guess that makes red a good colour to wear now? #fashionbloggerlogic

Along with my current obsession with ditsy floral prints, wrap styles and frills, this swing dress nails the little red dress checklist to create a cutesy afternoon outfit, which can also be dressed up with a bit of glam for an evening do. As I’m not particularly an ‘evening do’ person, I styled it with some strappy Mary-Janes (from Raid) and a big ol’ bag that’ll store all of my daytime necessities (such as my huge purse which never seems to fit in any bag I buy… just me?).

I absolutely ADORE the feminine hem of this red dress because it majorly elongates my legs and takes this 5 foot 7 gal to a strong almost-6-foot-looking gal. I mean, imagine if I was wearing really high heels too? I also think if you had a bit of a bigger bust then this dress would be perfect – there’s a bit of room in that region when I wear it but a v-neck is always good for those with some boob-age!

The red dress needs to stop being something we’re so afraid of. I’m not sure how many times I’ve mentioned it on my blog but COLOUR MEANS CONFIDENCE. Red is one of those colours that is definitely a bit ‘out there’, but when worn the right way can still be sweet and subtle, especially if paired with black/neutral accessories and a nude lip.

TOP LIFE TIP: DON’T WEAR A RED LIPSTICK WITH A RED DRESS.

When it comes to a little rouge outfit, you don’t want to overdo it, so make your statement with a single item and let that be the focus of your new sassy red look.

So next time you need that new dress for an event, don’t go straight to black. Red is the colour of Summer 2017 and we all have it in us to rock it.

I love the dress and Mary Jane combo. Great tip about avoiding red lips too, there is nothing worse than overdoing it. Think I may need to head to RI this weekend to pick it up!

Yeah it’s often really hard to match the exact same shade of red too which is why I avoid that! And you definitely should, way underrated in there at the mo!
