Oh guys, I’ve been in a bit of a style rut. My usual daily routine consists of me checking out ASOS, Topshop and New Look in the evening to see if I can find any good bargains for either myself, or to share with you guys – but I’ve felt totally uninspired. I’m not sure whether it’s because I’m still caught up in the house move and I’m spending lots of money on homeware bits (because I’m definitely doing a lot of that, helloooo Home Sense) but last week was just a disaster on the fashion front.
On Friday instead of looking online I thought I’d treat myself to an afternoon of shopping and outfit putting-togethering (definitely a phrase), but if you saw my Instagram story you would’ve seen that I hated everything and didn’t buy anything apart from a pair of shoes from Topshop. I felt all crappy and like I was failing my job at being a fashion blogger, and I couldn’t seem to find any new trends or really give a sh*t about anything to do with it.
Needless to say I came home to my parents for the weekend, picked up some old out of stock gear that I wouldn’t usually wear because I can’t link it online, and VOILA – I’M CURED. I think I just spend so much time looking at the huge range of whats out there, and it’s too much to take in. Like, it’s overwhelming?! Considering half the stuff I own I never actually wear more than once…
So after strolling around in the polka dot dress that I’m wearing in the outfit below, I thought to myself ‘I need to invest in some polka dot stuff, maybe a jumper for Autumn, or maybe some trousers’ and suddenly all of these ideas came into my head. I finally had outfit post ideas, and ideas of direct items to search for online. HALLEEEELLUJAHHH.
ROBYN, STOP STRESSING GAL. LOOK IN YOUR BLOODY WARDROBE FOR INSPIRATION.
The dress itself is from Dorothy Perkins and I got it a month or two ago in an Outfit store for a sale bargain of only £15 – I have actually found it online with two sizes left so check it out here, but it’s one of those summer dresses that I’ll wear with tights in a few months time and I love the frilly details on the front. Yes it’s a little simple, and yes it’s a little monochrome, but it looks nice with my tan and it’s long enough for it to be suitable for work, so I’m down for it.
Of course what I love most about it is the POLKA DOTS. My wardrobe is filled with striped trousers and tops but polka dots seem to be lacking, so it’s my mission to find some seriously sassy spotted goods on the high street in the next few months. I’ll start in this post with some options in a few different price brackets!
THE POLKA DOT TREND – £10 AND UNDER
THE POLKA DOT TREND – £11 TO £25
THE POLKA DOT TREND – OVER £25
Dress – Dorothy Perkins
Bag – Topshop
Shoes – Topshop
Watch – c/o Ice Watch
So there you have it, if you’re in a style rut, just take a peak in your wardrobe and your mind will create a new path of ideas for what you’re in need of. And let’s face it, we’ve all gotta up our polka dot collection (my eyes are on the red Forever 21 top).
