How To Style Your Summer Clothes For Autumn

Anyone else see a new jumper they want online everyday? October is definitely ‘buy all the knitwear month’ now it’s officially cold isn’t it? I have to say I’m loving snuggling up in the evening in a thick jumper and some fluffy trousers, but it’s too far away from Christmas for me to be really excited about it. I’m not a huge Halloween fan either, anyone else? For a girl who doesn’t go out anywhere partying or clubbing it seems a bit pointless, and I think I’m a little old to go trick or treating…

But what I AM loving right now is looking through all of my summer clothes and giving them the Autumn touch. At the weekend I did a bit of a wardrobe sort out and instead of putting away summer items for good, I kept some out if I thought I could layer them up for Autumn or Winter outfits. You’d be so surprised at how many things can be worn again!

A few months ago you would’ve seen me wear a skirt just like this one from Wearall with a loose tee and some sandals (and a job lot of fake tan… and lighter hair and all the other nice things about Summer. Fuck). But items like these are so easily wearable throughout the year, whether it’s on a mild Autumn day with a tee and tights, or like the look I’ve gone for here with a cosy jumper, some thick tights and ankle boots.

During my sort out I found so many old jumpers from last year that I’d picked up in the end of season sale and now they’re pretty much brand new. It’s surprising what you find when you dig around, and when you layer these with your summer items you’ll find so many new outfits!

Without realising you’re saving money on items you’re not having to buy – kaaachinnngggg!

In this look I’ve gone classic Autumn (even with the backdrop) with a cream, black and denim feel. As I mentioned before the skirt is from Wearall and is in-keeping with the ongoing embroidered denim trend which isn’t going to leave any time soon… Having an item like this in your wardrobe will always be easy to style whether it be with a t-shirt or a knit, and I’ve gone for a creamy jumper which I recently picked up in H&M.

(If you follow me on Insta/Twitter you will have seen I spilt a Greggs pasta salad all over this jumper when I bought it… and I wanted to shoot this outfit the following day. Luckily the stains came out, but no, I did not iron it).

Anyway, I think this is the first outfit of the 2017 Autumn/Winter season where I’m wearing tights, yaaayaayyayaaayyy! Not everyone is a fan but I love a tights and boots combination and I dug these old Ravel boots out the other day and fell back in love with the stiletto heel.

Do you make the most of your summer items? Or do you tend to shop for a whole new wardrobe when it comes to the new season? Let me know in the comments as always!

During the colder months, I struggle to part with my summer wardrobe, and hate packing it away so this post has saved me a little! This is such a good idea. I really must sort through my clothes and find some transitional pieces like this. Such a lovely post, the outfit is just gorgeous, and your pictures are incredible!

PS. I totally agree with you on Halloween – I’m not the biggest fan of that either, nor have I ever really gone partying/clubbing! xx

Me too! I hate packing it away but found actually I don’t need to pack that much away – so much can be worn and layered up again! So glad you like the post lovely x

Beaut skirt and I actually find I wear denim or A line skirts a lot more in winter – in the summer I dont always feel comfortable about my legs in them, but in autumn/winter boots and tights makes that a whole lot easier! I always pick up jumpers in the end of season sale too, so this year I’m quite happy to have a few that have only been worn like once each, so good! Looking gorgeous as always gal xxx

I know what you mean – I’m the same! I’m not good with my legs until I’ve fake tanned and got used to being comfortable with my legs out again, which usually isn’t until the end of summer haha! Thanks so much xx

I love embroidery – so glad the trend is staying! I recently got an embroidered black denim skirt from topshop and have been wearing it with jumpers/tights like you, i love how it adds a touch of summer to the cold, autumn months, but can still work. I have to admit i was uncertain if i could ‘pull it off’ with a BLUE denim skirt, but you’ve given me the courage to try it out!

As ever your posts bring some summer sunshine to a rainy day 🙂

Me too – can’t get enough!! I need a black skirt version like you mentioned! Of course you could pull off a blue denim one!
