Festive Casual Dressing For Novelty Clothing Haters

I’m officially in FESTIVE MODE! My Christmas tree and decorations are mostly up but because we’re in our new house we need a few more things to make it really Christmassy (I’ve also bought everything so far in ASDA and it’s all been amazing, and so cheap!). Most of my presents are bought too but I do have a couple left (especially secret santa!) so if anyone has any gift guides send them my way!

I don’t know why but my mood lifts so much in the month leading up to Christmas, especially after having a bit of a crappy/ill month in November. I’m so ready for some family time, and hopefully some more outfit posts!

As much as I do love Christmas I have to admit I’m not one for overdoing it when it comes to novelty fashion. On Christmas Day I might go for a really OTT jumper, but unless it’s actual crimbo day you won’t see me in a bright red jumper with a giant reindeer sticking out, 20 knitted balls and battery powered lights attached. Not exactly work appropriate either, is it?

I’m definitely the kinda girl that would choose calmer festive patterns on their clothing around the Christmas period and in this outfit I’m wearing a new favourite jumper from Next for a casual, warm daytime look. I mean, it really is freezing out there isn’t it? As I’m writing this I’m seeing the first snow of the season – give me ALLLL the layers!

The jumper from Next is SO cosy and has a subtle fairisle print which is perfect for those of you that don’t want to draw attention to yourselves (aka me when I haven’t washed my hair in 3 days and just want to quietly shop for some last minute presents). Maybe I’m just a scrooge because I’m not into anything novelty, but these days some of the slogans and designs are just far too much (or too cringe) for me.

I wanted to style this jumper for an everyday casual look wearing a colour-matching bag, also from Next, some black jeans and my failsafe black ankle boots. The coat is from I Saw It First but it’s sold out now – there’s a similar one on both Boohoo and Pretty Little Thing though if you like the design and the fit!

Are you a fan of novelty? Or do you keep it stripped back until Christmas Day only? I’d love to know your thoughts, and let me know if you like this outfit in the comments as always!
