Stand Out Accessories For Your New Year Outfit

Anyone else feel a bit lost now that Christmas is over?! For me I have a standard 2 day Christmas (including family day on Boxing Day) then it’s my birthday on the 27th, then until New Year the days just merge together in a pool of leftover food, sleep catch-up and aching limbs from all the sofa surfing (dear mum, get another spare room please).

Aside from the fact my family have given me the worst cold in the world in the lead up to the New Year, I am actually excited to get dressed up and meet with all my friends on the night itself – after all, Christmas is for pyjamas and NYE is for glam, right?! But no New Year party comes without the “what the eek am I going to wear” stress, and this year it’s all about the accessories that accompany your main outfit.

Of course we all want to nail that killer look for New Years Eve. This years trends have varied from velvet to everything red, faux fur to embroidery but I’ve gone for bright sequins with this Debenhams dress. I’m obsessed with the below-knee length and the cinched waist because it feels so sophisticated, but the all over sequins just scream PARTY. It’s such a comfortable dress to wear too and could see myself throwing shapes in it all night (though I’m 100% not one to stay up or throw shapes to be honest).

Purple isn’t a colour I’d usually choose either but it’s such a beautiful shade, like a midnight purple/blue, and it’s nice to try something different for a change.

P.s. the dress is now in the sale!

A statement dress however will never be complete without its accessories, and for me a clashing or opposite coloured bag and a similar coloured pair of shoes is the way to go.

Although you’d think the bright purple sequins of the dress would do all the talking, it’s not quite a finished look without the silver bag breaking up the look.

Just LOOK at the details of the bag – it looks like something designer but it only costs a budget £30 by brand Call It Spring sold at Debenhams. It also has an attachable chain if you don’t fancy holding it all night (basically me when I have a drink in one hand and my phone in the other for selfies!).

Finally as I mentioned before I like to keep quite a low key shoe if I’ve gone for a bit of a more statement bag and dress, and these block-heeled shoes by Call It Spring have the cutest glittery purple heel to match the dress. Not too much to be over-the-top but still enough to add plenty of jazz to the outfit.

The shoes in my eyes tie the whole look together, and they’re also ones that you can wear again and again with plain black dresses later in the year.

What do you think of the look? Do you think accessories (shoes, bags) are important for an outfit to be complete? Let me know in the comments as always – and let me know what you’re wearing to your New Year parties!
