2017, whhhhaaaat a year. 12 months is a long time and now I’m thinking about everything I did last year I really am quite shocked/overwhelmed but mainly proud of myself. I spent a full year at my job, I had some amazing blog opportunities with brands, I went on holiday and conquered my fear of flying (well, I went), I moved out of my parents house into a lovely coach house with Jimmy… the list goes on. These may seem like normal things to do when you’re 22, but a lot of these things had so much anxiety connected to them at the time and I’m so glad I’ve got to a point now where I’m living a normal (ish) life and not letting panic/anxiety control me.
This year I’m hoping will be the same, and I’m looking forward to more holidays, more blog opportunities and more memories. On the downside I have to have some surgery on my teeth later this month, as well as braces… So get ready for Phases Of Robyn to go full on 14 year old.
I thought I’d go through some of my blog and general life goals for 2018, this means I actually have a general record of it so I can kick myself up the arse when I’m going through a lazy patch!
DON’T STRESS ABOUT NOT BLOGGING.
Since I’ve moved out I’ve blogged a little less, and it’s mainly because I’ve found it hard to find photographers and I can’t afford to pay proper photographers to come all the way to where I live to shoot outfits. It’s something I’m thinking about but I tend to get irritated at myself for having no content – instead I just need to go with the flow and blog when I can. Stress and irritation won’t change the circumstance.
NO NUMERICAL GOALS… JUST INTERACT MORE.
I’ve never set numerical goals in the history of my blogging career. It’s harder than ever to reach numerical goals when it comes to readers/followers so this year I want to focus on engagement and content, and especially engagement when it comes to being involved with people on Twitter and Instagram. I’ll admit I’m one to scroll through on Instagram and just ‘like’ pictures and not engage by commenting, and on Twitter I can scroll through my feed and not like or reply to anything for hours. 2018 is the year I will comment on your photos!
DON’T BE AFRAID OF IPHONE PHOTOS.
I went through a phase of never using iPhone images, but after trying them out recently I’ve found they interact with my audience really well, and of course they’re WAY quicker to process than camera snaps.
RECYCLE YOUR CLOTHES.
I’m guilty of wearing something new in all of my outfit posts because I feel like I’m ‘keeping up’ with other fashion bloggers, but I’m going to wear some of my favourite pieces a few times if they fit in with looks I’m trying to create. In reality, if it’s a totally different look then who cares?
ADD MORE ACCESSORIES.
Outfit-wise I spend so much time focussing on the outfit that I forget about the accessories. I don’t buy a lot of new accessories so I don’t want to wear the same ones in every outfit post, so this year I want to focus on jewellery and accessories and check out the sales when I can!
TALK ABOUT OTHER TOPICS.
My passion will always be fashion and my outfit posts, but in the early days of POR I covered a lot of lifestyle and beauty topics and I do miss those days! I’m thinking of getting back into some make-up looks or reviews, as well as any lifestyle topics that take my fancy.
MY FLIPPIN’ HAIR.
I had my hair done recently (ta-dah!) and it was 7 months since I’d had it cut – before that it was so ratty and gross. Now I’m blonder I really want to take better care of my hair so I WILL go and cut my hair every 6-8 weeks and I WILL wash it less.
LEARN HOW TO COOK.
It’s been 5 months since we moved out and as I work part time I have time to cook before Jimmy gets home from work. The only issue is I’m not fab in the cooking department… This year I want to get some cookbooks and learn how to actually make some nice food because oven food doesn’t cut it for me.
I’ve never done any form of exercise, ever. I might contemplate it some time this year but I might not. However gym classes sound like my kinda thing so I might actually give them a go!
START READING AGAIN.
I go through phases of reading books, but I want to try switching off my phone at 9.30pm and reading for an hour before I go to sleep. I don’t have trouble sleeping usually, but the amount of time I spend looking at a screen is seriously ridiculous. I also have about 10 unread books in my wardrobe to get through…
BUY A FUNKY WATER BOTTLE AND DRINK MORE.
I’ve never drunk enough water, and to be honest it probably leads to 50% of my headaches and migraines. Like the weirdo that I am though I need something to spur me on with it and I’m thinking about buying a cool water bottle to make the ordeal more fun. Any recommendations drop me a comment – I know Chilly’s Bottles are popular at the mo!
FINALLY… DON’T BE TOO HARD ON MYSELF.
I’m my own worst enemy sometimes. I’m very critical but mainly because I’m such a perfectionist. I want everything my own way (yes, not an ideal trait) but I work hard to achieve it. In 2018 I want to take things seriously, work hard, but try and RELAX at the same time. I get very worked up, very tense and then I slump in a pile of stress. This year is the year of achieving what needs to be achieved but not kicking myself if I f*ck something up.
