Dial Up Your Denim with Debenhams

I’ve lost count of the amount of times that I’ve raved on about denim here on POR but it’ll always be that failsafe item in our wardrobes for any occasion where we’re struggling to put an outfit together. Over the years they’ve developed new cuts and new colours, and now we’ve got added embellishments and embroideries on them to make the simple staple that bit more fab – but no matter what styles take our fancy, most of the time they’ll be the start of our outfit decision making.

No, I’m not going to tell you how many pairs I own. (because the amount of people living in my house don’t have enough fingers to count)

Debenhams new Dial Up Your Denim campaign is championing all things denim and I’m going to show you how I’m taking classic blue denim for a grungy everyday outfit and swapping it for an essential black skinny jean and creating a more classy work-style vibe.

OUTFIT ONE

These slightly ripped jeans are by Red Herring and I was completely drawn to them because of the gingham frill at the bottom – it’s something I’d never seen before and knew it would create an alternative edge. AREN’T THEY FAB? They may not be loved by all but I’m very partial to a straight leg fit and I love finding a blue jean that has something a little different about it (especially with this gal’s growing collection).

To keep the ‘grungy’ feel with the gingham jeans I’ve paired them with a black shirt and some chunky heeled boots, also both from Debenhams. I like that there’s a bit of a gap between the boots and my jeans because it shows off the frill, and I have to say these boots are the comfiest things in existence!

An everyday look has to also be completed with an everyday bag and instead of a tote bag (because basic ol’ me spends her life buying tote bags) I decided to opt for a cross-body bag by Dorothy Perkins. It’s one of those bags that I’m hoping will look good for everyday as well as more dressy occasions (well… let’s see!).

OUTFIT TWO

Outfit two is all about the super skinny black jean – basically that one pair we all need in our wardrobes at any one time – and dressing it up for a work-wear look.

You know the whole ‘jeans and nice top’ thing? Well, these are the jeans.

This particular pair are by Red Herring and are the bargainest of bargains when it comes to black high-waisted skinny jeans. I’m so impressed with them and after not really finding the right black skinny jeans for me as of yet, I think I’ve found the ones!

I really wanted to show that jeans can be styled up and look nice, and this Miss Selfridge top and Faith ankle boots combo really do the job. The high-neck floral top is such a cute addition for the end of Winter (which is lasting forever) and did you see the close up of the ankle boots?! A DREAM. They’re so comfy too I could walk in them at work all day!

I definitely think the bag looks alright with smarter clothes too, don’t you think? Plus it’s really roomy so it’s a fab work bag!

I’d love to know what you think of both of my outfits – drop me a comment as always and let me know which is your fave! Are you a denim lover or hater (though, is that even a question…?).
