Ahhh monochrome. No matter how many times I say I’m going to bring loads of colour into my outfits, I still end up in a black and white look.
The bank holiday weekend is treating us well with this sun, and I love nothing more than getting into a dress that I’ve been waiting weeks to wear, along with some sandals and some sunglasses. Please note, I do not wear sunglasses very often because I can’t be arsed to get prescription ones, but occasionally I’ll sport them for the ‘gram. I do feel a little self conscious at this time of year – I feel pale and I feel out of shape, but who really wants to go out in 25 degrees wearing jeans? I’m happy to embrace my flaws, my pale skin and the recently how-the-hell-did-that-get-there bruises, especially if I can wear summery clothes I’ve been desperate to wear for months.
In this outfit I’m talking all about under £20 bargains. On a shopping spree a few weeks ago I picked up so many pieces that were under £20, and it just goes to show that being stylish doesn’t necessarily have to come at a high price. I’ll talk you through my bargain outfit, then I’ll show you some seriously good wardrobe finds from the high street that’ll cost you less than your average McDonalds trip.
This is the dress. THE dress. You’ve probably seen it already if you’re into fashion/magazines/bloggers, but it’s a £19.99 beauty from New Look that also comes in a few other colours. I (obviously) opted for black so that it could be paired easily with coloured t-shirts, or a white one like I’ve done here. The dress really appealed to me because although it was under £20 (ok, only just) it was such good quality, and the button detail made it so on trend for this spring/summer season.
You can never go wrong with a timeless black and white look, and this outfit calls for some black sandals to go with the dress (I would go with white but they are not going to stay clean). I’m always shouting out about M&S and their affordable clothes and shoes, but when I went shopping I noticed SO many pieces were £19.50, including these black strappy mules. Remember last year I had those black mules that I featured in this post, and this post? They’re really similar and were also £19.50, I’m still wearing them now! I couldn’t resist these strappy ones though and I kinda wanted them in red, but when they didn’t have them in stock I decided to go sensible with black. I guess it was fate!
Finally, I couldn’t have JUST a monochrome outfit, could I? My favourite Next pink bag is back in stock and I loved the pop of colour with this look. Ok, it’s £21… but not far off, eh?

What do we think of monochrome? I’m just such a sucker for a black dress or jumpsuit, and I know I’ve got a small pop of colour, but sometimes I can’t resist a coloured bag or earring! Let me know what you think in the comments, and hope you like my under £20 picks!
