Summer Loving: I Feel SO Much Better Already

UHHHH I feel good.

Everything feels so good at the moment. I don’t really have any idea why I wanted to write a post about it, but with the change in the weather last weekend, the addition of some fake tan and a stock up of some summer pieces in my wardrobe and I’m literally a changed person. Are you the same?

I think we all know whether we’re a winter or a summer person, and sure when we wake up in the morning to a blanket of snow it looks absolutely beaaaautiful, but I’m not the kinda girl that deals with the cold and the dark days well. I’m a total summer girl and I’m all about warm days and light evenings with a cocktail!

I have no idea whether you have to be fully ‘diagnosed’ but I think I’ve got seasonal affective disorder. I reckon a lot of us do. During winter the days are so short and the cold temperatures mean we have to spend so much energy keeping ourselves warm that I’m just absolutely knackered by about 3pm. Dark afternoons don’t help either, do they? I swear I napped the whole way through the season. Sure, it’s nice to cosy up on the sofa in front of a fire but I’d swap that for a warm day walking around fields and shops (or, you know, on an actual holiday) in a heartbeat.

Winter fashion is obviously a huge part of my life too, and I do love layering up outfits and adding scarves and ankle boots to looks, but now it’s getting warmer I’m obsessed with colour, bright fabrics, shorter skirt lengths (oooh) and finally being able to leave the house without a huge flipping coat. It lifts my mood so much when I step out of the house and the sun is shining, but it’s actually a little warm too?!

I think summer just makes everyone happier, and your moods reflect onto each other. People have holidays coming up, day trips or even just some sort of event that they can dress up summery for – I’m not due to go on holiday until next September (yikes) but a few things are in the pipeline this summer in terms of days out, so I can’t wait to bring out some summer dresses.

Like I mentioned earlier, I lathered on fake tan the other day and I find that tanned skin is something that gives me so much more confidence. I find it quite a faff, and I never bother with it over the winter because, well, what’s the point? But as soon as that first hot day hits I’m straight out with the fakey bake. I feel less ghostly, less ill-looking (just my general complexion is quite pale and ill-looking, even though I’m healthy!) and finally I feel just a bit more sexy???! Clothes look better on me in my opinion, and I feel like photos turn out better because my skin doesn’t blend into white areas of the photo. Pale gal problems!

With all of that comes summer make-up too – you can’t beat new bronzers and perfumes for the season to lift your mood! I always have two different sets of make-up, one for summer and one for winter. This week after fake tanning I pulled out my darker foundation and added more highlight to my cheeks than usual – DAMN I literally was on cloud nine when I left for work that morning!

Don’t forget the accessories either, look at these beaut earrings from Adore that I’m wearing in this post! Finally I’m tanned, wearing colour, with accessories and with summery make-up. HALLELUJAH!

Rambling on as usual, but I guess I’m just feeling really positive for the summer and all that’s to come! I’d love to know if any of you suffer with seasonal affective disorder? It’s definitely something I think about a lot in the winter so any info on it would be lovely!

I love this! I totally agree that the summer is so much better than the winter, and that everyone is much better when the sun is shining. xx

I’ve often thought the same as you about this – winter makes me feel so down and when the sun returns it is SUCH a instant mood/motivation/happiness booster. In love with those culottes, they look so comfy! xxx
