The Number One Ongoing Trend: Stripes

Anyone else can’t go into a high street shop without eyeing up something striped?! Well I certainly can’t. It’s one of those trends that will always be in fashion and this season there seems to be a huge amount of it for us to spend all of our dollar on. In particular, I’m loving the abundance of striped trousers and culottes – they’re an easy-to-style item that can be worn with SO many things, as well as being re-worn with other items in other seasons.

I’m coming to you with some seriously lush Topshop striped (sale!) trousers, styled for a classic casual outfit, along with some fashion tips for different outfit scenarios/weathers.

Firstly, say hello to the comfiest trousers in the world *insert hand wave emoji*. I found these beauts online at Topshop in the sale section and when I saw they had every size in stock it was FATE for me to get them. I’m so pleased I actually bought some trousers with no black in them, and obviously I’m green obsessed at the moment so the green stripes are totally me. I reckon the trousers are a little love-them-or-hate-them (dad thought they were very clown like, go away), but they’re so well made and I reckon with the right styling they can be worn all year round.

The double vertical stripes are what I really think makes these trousers – they always make you look a little taller than you are and because they’re vertical you can wear either flats or heels with them without it looking odd. These trousers work really well with simple black tops because all the detail is in the trousers, and I’ve paired them with some gorgeous Topshop flats (which are also in the sale, and very Gucci-esque).

So how could you style them in every season? Here are some of my top tips and ideas!

SUMMER – well, just like I have here. Go casual with a tee and flats/sandals and keep all eyes on the trousers. The belt is a winner too so tuck in your top and show off the detail. Swap for heeled sandals for work.

AUTUMN – add a light jacket to the trousers with a coloured t-shirt tucked in. A blazer or leather jacket would be ideal depending on if you’re off to work or want a casual vibe. Shoe-wise opt for a heeled mule.

WINTER – a cropped black jumper would look so good with these trousers! When I say cropped, I mean just the right length so that it sits at the top of the trousers and you can see the belt – no tummys on show in winter. Wear with ankle boots and a fun coat – I think pink would be a good colour with this palette!

SPRING – similar to autumn, but with a little more of a spring touch. Add a clashing floral blouse and some coloured sandals, with a longline trench coat for a light layer.

Top – Missguided (old, same here for £8!)

Trousers – Topshop (on sale!)

Bag – Accessorize

Shoes – Topshop (on sale too!)

What do you think of the look?! Are you a stripes fan or do you tend to steer clear? I personally think they’re a great pattern for people who are a little afraid to go for bold prints. Hope you like my picks too – let me know in the comments!
