Styling Pastels For Summer: Top Picks Under £15!

I miss you, denim!

Sure we love summer for dresses, skirts, bare legs and bare shoulders, but who says there’s anything wrong with a jeans and top combo? Sometimes I’m just not in the mood or the zone to wear a skirt or dress, and recently I’ve been pulling out my jeans again for the summer and matching them with simple tops and sandals.

One thing I’ve been on the lookout for recently are great tops to wear with jeans or trousers. When it comes to workwear I like wearing plain black trousers with nice tops, but I’m generally a fan of tapered style trousers and find it hard to get tops that look right with them. During summer I’m not so keen on ‘tucking in’ and would rather wear tops that sit right on the trouser line, and the same goes for when I’m wearing jeans. It’s just comfier and looser on hot days, isn’t it?

Although it sounds like it would be easy to find slightly cropped but not too cropped tops, it really wasn’t. I’ve been looking for the last few weeks and the only thing I’ve really found is t-shirts, but to be honest I want nicer things in my wardrobe than just t-shirts, especially for work.

Of course… New Look came up trumps with this top, covered in pastel stripes with a perfect sits-on-the-top-of-your-trouser length. If you’re a serial New Look shopper then you will have already noticed these tops in store or online as they come in loads of different pastel colours (the mustard and the cream are my faves!) but this striped one is totally me!

The top has classic button-up detail for this seasons biggest trend, and the white mixed with pastel colours makes it totally suitable for summer. I even managed to find some shoes in a matching pink – these mules were only £15 in Dorothy Perkins and I’ve already had loads of wear from them. I like to have a heel with most shoes I wear but the low heel on these are ideal for comfort, and who can resist a pink shoe!?

The top looks great for work with black and grey trousers, but I loved them with my loose fit Boohoo jeans which I’ve had for yonks.

I’ve dug around for the best pastel pieces on the high street, including a few of those ‘perfect sitting’ tops! Everything below is UNDER £15!

Top – New Look

Jeans – Boohoo

Shoes – Dorothy Perkins

Bag – Jessica Buurman (old, similar here)

Lipstick – Mac Mehr

What do you think of the outfit?! Are you a pastel person or do you prefer darker shades? Let me know your thoughts on the whole ‘tops sitting at the right place instead of tucking them in’ situ too – I always love reading your comments!

Saw this little top in New Look and loved it – you’re right, it’s the PERFECT length! I can’t often be tempted by a crop top but longer tops aren’t very flattering on my (fairly big) hips so I’m always on the lookout for tops that sit in the right place too. Love the little pink mules as well x

I think that’s the reason for me too, I don’t like long tops that sit at my hips so anything the right length is ideal!

I love the colours of this top for summer. I’ve not spotted it in my local New Look but I’ll have to go and try it on <3
