5 Tips For How To Style A Jumpsuit In Summer

Jumpsuits are a funny thing to wear, aren’t they? I think you either love them or you hate them.

Personally, I love how comfortable jumpsuits are, and I think they can be easy to style no matter how good you think you are at ‘fashion’. Do I think jumpsuits are better than dresses? No. Do I think they’re more convenient to wear than dresses? No. But are they hella stylish? YES.

Get ready for a full outfit post with a new black jumpsuit of mine, along with 5 of my biggest tips for wearing and styling jumpsuits, especially in summer.

TIP 1 – TRY ON A JUMPSUIT, AND BE CAREFUL OF THE SIZING

Jumpsuits are great, but you usually find your typical size isn’t the right one for you. ALWAYS try it on. Brands tend to make their clothing based on one size and one height. Obviously, height plays a huge part in jumpsuits because the taller we are, the more tricky it will be to fit in a jumpsuit properly around the crotch area (if you’re shorter, it’ll obvs be too long!).

I often size up with a jumpsuit, but if you’re petite or tall then keep an eye out on those additional ranges specifically for you if you want to find the perfect one.

TIP 2 – CINCH IN AT THE WAIST

Much like a dress, it’s always good to find a jumpsuit that comes in at the waist. If it doesn’t, you can always pop a belt on to make it more shapely. I find jumpsuits great for hiding my arse and showing the smallest part of my waist – but if you’re the opposite then it still looks fab! It’s like magic! I often find fitting boobs into jumpsuits a little tricky because the item pulls in at the waist, but it’s just another reason I tend to size up – you basically don’t want the item to ‘pull’ anywhere!

TIP 3 – NOT JUST FOR DRESSING UP

People associate jumpsuits with workwear and occasionwear, but of course they’re a classic comfy casual. Stretchy and softer materials make the ideal weekend piece, which can be easily slipped on if you need to create a quick outfit.

When looking for a more casual jumpsuit, think about things like elasticated waists and wider straps. Wide legged jumpsuits are also a bonus during the hot weather – they keep you nice and airy without any knicker flash.

TIP 4 – STYLING IS EASY

Basically, you can wear a printed jumpsuit with patterns/colour with plain accessories, or a plain jumpsuit with coloured or printed accessories. There’s no need to match skirts/tops, so the jumpsuit just stands by itself and does all the talking. Cold? Add a blazer for a dressed-up look, or a cardigan to dress down (however, leave them undone and open or it’ll look weird).

In this look I’ve gone for a simple black jumpsuit (a great way to start if you’re unsure!) and added red accessories. So simple!

TIP 5 – THEY CAN MAKE YOU LOOK SHORT OR TALL WITH YOUR SHOE CHOICE!

Wearing jumpsuits can seriously elongate those legs, especially if you have a cinched-in waist. Wanna be a little taller? Add heels and you’ll look even taller. Always the tallest in your group? Keep to a flat shoe so you do the opposite and don’t elongate your figure.

In general though, you’ll be surprised what a heel does to your jumpsuit outfit and that’s what takes it from casual to out-out! Don’t be afraid to switch up the same jumpsuit with two different shoe choices depending on the occasion.
