4 Ways To Improve Work/Life Balance

I’m definitely one of those ‘cannot switch off’ types. I can’t chill out and watch my favourite Netflix shows without brainstorming blogging ideas or searching the sales to share with my readers. I love my two jobs (for those who don’t know I also work for a care company!) but I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t working or writing or actually had a full day off. I think when you work in the digital world then it’s really hard to resist checking your phone and social media, I’m on mine literally 24/7.

Obviously it’s so important mental health/body wise to take a break sometimes and let your mind breathe. This week it’s Afternoon Tea week, and last weekend I took my mum for a trip to The Oxfordshire for a spa day and afternoon tea. It’s JUST the break I needed.

I thought I’d also share 4 ways to improve your work/life balance!


The cinema, swimming, a warm bath… the list goes on, but take away the use of your phone so you can’t be tempted to use it. During our spa day I had barely any phone action (except to take photos, of course!) and it was so refreshing to not be glued to a screen. My eyes felt rejuvenated and less strained, and I just felt generally more in the present instead of worrying about work or that overdue pile of ironing.


Recently I’ve become somewhat a runner… Months ago I couldn’t even run to the end of my road, but I find it takes my mind away from everything and I also feel a sense of achievement from it. While running, once again, you can’t be stuck to your phone, and all I do is spend 45 minutes concentrating on my breathing, which has been ideal for my mental health. Having other goals that aren’t work related too is a great thing as it means you build personal time in your schedule.


I find that whenever I feel down I treat myself, but it’s actually a vicious cycle because I associate feeling crap with being followed by new things and presents. Recently I’ve been thinking about other things that I can spend money on to reward myself for tough days or bad events. I’ve realised everyone has bad days, and that ‘objects’ (aka, clothes…) won’t always save them. Things like going somewhere new or trying something different is so much more rewarding, and going for the afternoon tea and spa was just what I needed.


A tidy house is a tidy mind. Do you ever feel that guilt when you don’t do the washing or have a clean up? I feel so much more at ease when my house is clean and I’ve actually accomplished some goals. Coming home from work to a messy house just makes me feel like I’ve got more on my plate to deal with.

    I loved this post!! I always find it so hard to switch off and definitely find it hard to stay focused when there are things constantly running through my mind. Im desperate for a spa day!
