You can’t be too ready for summer clothing, can you? Summer pieces are my favourite to buy, and as soon as we get 5 minutes of a potential heatwave I’m out in dresses and skirts. There’s just something about it that makes me feel happier, apart from the dent in my bank balance during May/June as I buy into all of the high streets new summer trends.
I thought I’d bring you some summer pieces that you should buy into now, just as it’s starting to warm up. It’s obviously the UK, so no need to head straight into mini skirt and bardot tops, but I’ve definitely found a few key trends and styles that you can find right now!
NAVY, NOT BLACK
The navy trend is a good’un this season. Black burns (ever been sat in the car for a few hours with black trousers on? Ouch) and navy is a fab alternative. You’ll notice all high street stores are taking note of this with shoes, bags and clothing. Navy is also great for pale girls like myself and gives a less harsh look against the skin I think!
I love a good pastel accessory. Pastel pinks, purples, greens and yellows are so easy to wear for spring and summer. My favourite ways to wear the colours are on my shoes, handbags, tops and bits and pieces of jewellery (pastel pink dangly earrings, come to me!).
This bag I’m wearing here I found in Debenhams by Faith – I adore the croc print to go alongside the ongoing animal print theme for 2019, and the pastel purple/lilac colour is ideal to wear with navy. However, you could also wear it with SO many other colours!
Ok, obvious one I know, but for glasses wearers like myself sunglasses can be irritating to find (and if you aren’t a fan of contact lenses then high street ones are a no go). Here I’m wearing a gorgeous pair of glasses with transitional lenses which were kindly gifted to me by Cubitts and Transition Lenses. I got to choose the frame and the colour of the sunglasses tint (the amber colour you can see) and I am so impressed with them!
This isn’t sponsored but they are a gift, and I love how quickly they change from dark to light, and light to dark. What happens is when they are exposed to UV rays the lenses change colour, so it allows them to be both prescription glasses and sunglasses. If any of you need prescription sunnies then I would definitely recommend (I got the Somers frame btw)! Of course they are a summer staple so now is the time to get thinking about your 2019 pair!
I feel like high street stores have cottoned on to the fact that many offices have a ‘smart casual’ dress code. Sure, sometimes you have to have that uber smart tailored suit, but generally we prefer a more laid-back-but-still-smart outfit. I am looooving lighter and more casual blazers and definitely think they’re an essential for summer over our workwear.
I found this ivory blazer in H&M last month and it’s ideal for throwing over t-shirts and skirts/trousers when I want to smarten up a look. The colour livens up an all black outfit too, and it makes a change to not wear a black blazer! It also has a tie at the back and I occasionally like pulling this to the front to cinch the waist (especially with jumpsuits).
Jacket – H&M
Top – H&M
Trousers – H&M
Bag – Debenhams
Shoes – Marks & Spencer
Sunglasses – c/o Cubitts
What do you think of the look? Have you started investing in summer pieces yet, or too cold for you? There are so many sales on right now so I’d definitely get looking online, or head down to the high street!
