Pinafore Dresses & Layering With Apricot

Happy December! Hasn’t it got freezing?! I’ll admit I did fall hard to the Black Friday sales over the weekend and I have a few snuggly coats and knits coming my way, but who doesn’t love layering up? Particularly every winter I’m always a sucker for cutesy pinafore dresses and this year is no different – in this post I’m collaborating with Apricot to share an outfit fit for A/W.

I love the warm tones this outfit brings and the dress is ideal for casualwear and workwear, don’t you think? The a-line, wrap style of this dress is gorgeous and having it cinch in at the waist is just what you need to add some shape. Apricot have nailed the brown/rust colour tones for their autumn/winter collection and this dress (along with the button detail) works so well with any kind of jumper or t-shirt underneath. It fits perfectly on me too and if you’re after a lighter colour then they also have it in more of a mustard tone!

The print of this is a classic dogtooth vibe but this season so many high street stores are doing cord pinafores or check print versions. Having a print dress just means you can wear super simple items underneath/around it so it makes styling mega easy.

Styling for this dress was going to be obvious easy layering. Apricot had this simple but cosy cream roll-neck jumper which I knew would work so well with the dress. The button detailing on the sleeve matches with the buttons on the dress, and the necklines work together perfectly.

This dress could be worn with either black, tan/rust or white/cream jumpers but this would just seemed to be ideal for a casual and snuggly look. Roll-neck jumpers are such a hit this year too, have you noticed they are everywhere?! This slightly looser-neck one is also great if you’re not a fan of the tight fitting pieces!

To complete the look these dress/jumper combo’s always look the cutest with tights and boots. If you’re not a tights wearer then I’m afraid you’re not going to cope with this one until at least April! I’m definitely building up my black ankle boot collection this winter and the type of boot that you wear will determine how smart/casual you want your pinafore dress look to be. Go for a pointed toe kitten heel boot for a smart workwear look and a chunky block heel for a casual outfit.
